De provincie Gelderland wil in een nieuw faunabeheerplan meer ruimte laten aan wilde zwijnen op de Veluwe.
In plaats van de huidige maximale zwijnenpopulatie van 870 stuks, moet het aantal exemplaren in het voorjaar kunnen oplopen naar 1580 stuks. Dat meldde de provincie woensdag.
In het plan is sprake van gedifferentieerd faunabeheer. In het zuidoostelijke deel van de Veluwe zijn meer zwijnen mogelijk dan elders, omdat daar minder mensen wonen. Ook wil de provincie onderscheid maken in voedselarme en voedselrijke jaren. In het laatste geval mag het aantal zwijnen op de Veluwe oplopen naar in totaal 1580 dieren.
Over de zwijnen is de afgelopen jaren veel te doen geweest. De teller op de Veluwe stond vorig voorjaar op ongeveer 6000 dieren. Het verkeer op vooral de provinciale wegen zou daardoor in gevaar komen. De provincie stond daarom de jacht op duizenden zwijnen toe.
Eerder was nog sprake van het toestaan van de omstreden drukjacht op de dieren. De rechter stak daar uiteindelijk een stokje voor. Gelderland blijft jacht met behulp van een nachtkijker toestaan, maar een geluiddemper is verboden.
Een exacte telling van de populatie wilde zwijnen is nog gaande. Een onderzoek naar de invloed van overstekend groot wild op de verkeersveiligheid, is later dit jaar klaar.

Er verschenen maar liefst 81 zeilers aan de start tijdens de 200 Myls ‘SOLO’ van 2009. Daarvan hebben 68 zeilers de wedstrijd uitgezeild en nog eens 7 zeilers hebben hun logboek ingeleverd met minder dan 200 gevaren mijlen door de lichte weersomstandigheden. Omdat de verwachting was dat de wind op de derde dag zou afnemen, hebben veel zeilers hun best gedaan zoveel mogelijk mijlen de eerste dagen te zeilen.
Veel rust werd daardoor opgenomen aan het eind van de wedstrijd. De enkelingen die minder dan de reglementaire rust hadden opgenomen, hebben daarvoor veel strafpunten gekregen, omdat de organisatie van mening is dat het nemen van te weinig rust ontmoedigd moest worden. Die overtuiging had Jan Luijendijk en is overgenomen door het bestuur van de Stichting 200 Myls ‘SOLO’.
Door de relatief lichte omstandigheden heeft de snelste boot een gemiddelde snelheid van 6,6 knopen gehaald. In vorige jaren is dat wel eens 7,4 knopen geweest. De boot die de wedstrijd heeft uitgezeild met de laagste gemiddelde snelheid deed daar twee maal zo lang over met een gemiddelde snelheid van slechts 3,3 knoop. Die heeft dus een twee maal zo lange wedstrijd verzeild!
De Line Honours prijs werd uitgereikt Gerben Bos die het eerste finishte bij de laatste boei en in zijn wedstrijd alle reglementaire rusturen had gebruikt.
De Rookie prijs werd uitgereikt aan Erik Opmeer, hij was de snelste deelnemer die voor het eerst aan de wedstrijd deelnam.
De Jan Luijendijk Trofee werd uitgereikt aan de zeiler Adriaan van Berkel die de meest aansprekende prestatie had geleverd.
